The book must be a recent work of fiction, a novel that is written in the last 20 years, that is set in the present. Fantasy, science fiction, dystopia, thrillers are inappropriate.  The book should focus on the choices made by individuals similar to people you know or yourself in situations that you could imagine experiencing.  The resulting paper is an analysis of the choices the character makes, inferences about the values and attitudes that drive those choices, and a corresponding self-analysis of the student’s own value-driven decision process.
