In today’s rapidly changing and technology-focused industry, healthcare doe not only depend on clinicians. For healthcare institutions to succeed, a functional and dependable technology is needed to meet patients’ needs for care and keep process running smoothly. Healthcare industry needs to adapt with the changing technology to cut down costs, increase access to care delivery and improve medical care (Arnautova, 2021).
The world is facing increasing medical needs and patients’ high expectations for healthcare services, insufficient medical resources and unbalanced resources allocation. In order to reduce these problems, healthcare industry has developed the new technology called telemedicine. Telemedicine provides patients with access to high quality healthcare services through advanced communication and information technology. Telemedicine is a way to improve the equity and efficiency of health service delivery and increase the patients access to specialist expertise. Telemedicine can be used in store and forward, remote patient monitoring and real time interactive services. In telemedicine, patients’ health data are acquired and transferred to doctor across distance. Healthcare experts monitor a patient remotely by using wearable devices, digital video or other devices. Patient and doctor even communicate through video conferencing. By providing easier access to medical expertise, telemedicine can reduce the geographical variability of diagnosis, treatment and clinical management (Wang et al. , 2019).  Telemedicine offers better access to more specialist regardless of location. Patients’ engagements to their own health through telemedicine can help them maintain appointments and care schedules. Increased engagement initiatives can also reduce obesity rates and tobacco use by helping patients to encourage their healthy lifestyle choices. Patients will have easier access to reach out to their providers just in case they have any questions or concerns, report early warning signs and make a follow up appointment.
Telemedicine has its on cons too, restructuring IT staff responsibilities and purchasing equipment takes time and costs of money. Training is need to build an effective telemedicine program. All responsible healthcare professionals need to be trained to new system and technology. Reduced care continuity can decrease care quality when patient gets consult from different health care providers. Not all telemedicine is covered by insurance. There will be a personal data hacked if the patient accesses telemedicine on a public network or via an unencrypted channel. There may be a chance of care delays when a person needs emergency care, accessing telemedicine first may delay treatment.

Transformational Leadership is a management style in which the leader or manager serves as a role model. They are able to motivate those on the team. Teams can be coworkers, subordinates, other leaders and even patients and their families. Transformational leadership allows for the persons within the team to feel they are being challenged to be successful and creative. Persons that practice transformational leadership are the role model that behaves in a way that they wish others to behave, by setting positive examples. They act respectfully and acknowledge others’ ideas. Each individuals’ abilities are taken into consideration. By establishing positive relationships among the team members, a leader that practices transformational leadership has team members that are inspired to function at their highest capacity. Transformational leaders are seen someone that can understand the needs of others around them, and posses a drive that can help others achieve the goal.
In my future role as an APRN, Clinician, I can use this theory in establishing relationships with my patients. Kouzes and Posner, state that the relationships are established by those that lead, and those that choose to follow. They established that leadership is based on behaviors that APRNs can establish in their practice (Joel 2018). “The four factors of transformational leadership idealized influence, inspirational motivation, intellectual stimulation, and individual consideration – were recognized by nurse practitioners” (Poghosyan 2018). The delivery of high-quality care, encouraging others to achieve good healthcare, mentoring my patients and co-workers are some samples of how I will be able to use my professional role development into an APN, as a Nurse Practitioner in the future (Kupa 2016).
One of the things from my firsthand experiences that can be seen through transformational leadership is participation in shared governance at my facility. In shared governance, it is important to acknowledge the culture as well as an individual’s abilities. Shared governance can offer encouragement and give courage to those that may not usually speak up. By using transformational leadership in a shared governance, a culture can change by lending colleagues support in a positive manner (Weberg 2019). I have seen people take a negative atmosphere into a functioning positive one.
