Christine, thank you for your early discussion post about the individual factors and how their interactions with other variables affect group success. The ability to establish a clearly defined and appropriate set of goals throughout a group project are essential to determining the success of the group. Creating this baseline of information provides the necessary knowledge and allows for each member to develop the best approach for the overall goal. Everyone must understand the needs of the group assignment and contribute with equal participation and accountability in order for group unity to form and grow. As Stagnor (2016) explains, “member characteristics will have some influence on the effectiveness of this performance; however, the nature of the group itself will determinant of the group’s success” (P.242). Individual participation and actions must be based on overall success of the group goals. Continuing the process of identifying member activity, moving the progress forward, and reevaluating tasks as needed help promote group satisfaction. New ideas can form based on group ideas which can further promote the best production on current and future projects. A more comfortable group dynamic is created once everyone establishes a similar pattern of participation, results, and the best use of each member’s skill set.
